Sunday June 24th
(A Day in Homer)
Today, Andy and Angie went Kayaking for the afternoon.
Sharon and I went to the Old Inlet Bookshop and Mermaid Cafe (first pix), in Homer.
It is supposed to be the best breakfast in Homer (second pix). We thought
it was excellent. The
bookshop (same owner) has a very large collection of mostly old books.
Sharon and I drove up the hill for a while past some pretty new and attractive
homes - - - not glichy but very attractive with views somewhat like the view in
the third picture. I took that picture of the Spit, the runway running
left-right just on this side of the spit, and the town of Homer, just a bit to
the right. The Spit has a number of fishing charter places, food, souvenir
stores, etc. On the boardwalk (fourth pix) is one of the salmon/halibut
charter fishing places. Fish are being cleaned and filleted, but here the charter captains are cooking
hamburgers (of course).
Also on the Spit and on the same boardwalk is the Fresh Fish Cafe, where we had dinner
Tomorrow morning we will get up early, fly to Seward in what might be improving
weather (from the look out the window right now). We are taking the "tour
boat" out to see the whales, porpoises, and particularly the glaciers.
Then we will fly to Anchorage tomorrow night. Hopefully we will have some
nice pictures to post then.
